Strength in Your Back: Supporting Your Team Without Carrying Their Load

Your back is one of the body’s primary support systems.

It helps you maintain posture, protect your spine, transfer force, and carry load throughout daily life.

When your back is weak, other muscles compensate, posture breaks down, and unnecessary strain builds -

often showing up as neck pain, poor movement, or chronic tension.

Strong backs support movement; weak backs overwork everything else.

I think we can all agree that no one has a fun time when dealing with back pain.

This principle matters in leadership, too.

Great leaders support their teams, but they are not designed to carry every responsibility alone.

Just like the body, when one area overcompensates for everything, breakdown follows.

Healthy leadership means building the strength to support, stabilize, and distribute load appropriately - not absorbing it all yourself.

Imagine each person committing to this intentional strengthening.

Unstoppable.

CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK:

Build Strength through the full Back Chain: Engage your Core!

  • Wall Angels → Upper Back focus

    • Stand with your back against a wall, arms like goal posts. Keeping arms in contact with the wall, slowly lower and raise. [3x10 reps]

  • Rows → Mid Back focus

    • Using a resistance band or just bodyweight, pull your elbows back while pinching your shoulder blades together; keep your chest lifted. [3x10 reps]

  • Bird Dog→ Lower Back focus

    • You’ve seen this before! Position yourself on hands and knees, then extend the opposite hand and arm while maintaining a neutral spine posture. [3x10 reps]

REFLECTION:

  • Do you suffer from any back pain? Where at?

  • How often do you strengthen these different sections of your back?

  • How can strengthening your back contribute to a healthier you?
