Fuel For the Long Haul: Protein!

When you hear the word protein, do you immediately think of bodybuilders and protein shakes?

Protein actually matters for every one of us. Your body is constantly breaking down and rebuilding tissue, and protein provides the amino acids needed to build and repair muscle, support enzymes and hormones, and carry out many of the processes that keep your body functioning.

And here's the catch: your body needs protein consistently. Instead of saving most of it for one giant dinner, look for opportunities to include quality protein throughout your day.

Eggs, fish, poultry, lean meats, Greek yogurt, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, and other protein-rich foods and quality powders can all contribute. If you're exercising regularly, adequate protein becomes even more important as your body works to recover and adapt.

Healthy leaders understand that output requires rebuilding. You cannot continually break yourself down through work, training, stress, and responsibility without giving your body what it needs to repair.

This week, don't just ask yourself, “What am I eating?”

Ask, “Am I giving my body the materials it needs to rebuild?”

CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK:

  • Get in Your Protein Brick by Brick

    • Add It: Include a protein source with each main meal.

    • Prep It: Prepare one grab-and-go protein option for your busiest days.

    • Notice It: Pay attention to how your hunger and energy respond when your meals contain adequate protein.
