Fuel For the Long Haul: Healthy Fats!
For years, “fat” has sounded like something we should avoid. But dietary fat is an essential nutrient your body actually needs! It provides energy, helps absorb fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K, supports cell function, and supplies essential fatty acids. The goal isn't to eliminate fat - it’s to become more intentional about the types and amounts you consume.
Not all fats affect the body the same way. Foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and fatty fish provide primarily unsaturated fats, while many highly processed and fried foods can add large amounts of saturated fat and calories without much nutritional value. You don't need to fear the word “fat” - learn to recognize your sources and make the better choice more often.
Healthy leadership works similarly: what fuels you matters. Something can give you temporary satisfaction without actually sustaining you well. Whether we're talking about food, relationships, rest, or the things we consume mentally, healthy leaders learn to choose what nourishes them for the long haul.
CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK:
Get Your Good Fats In!
Make a Swap: Trade one highly processed or fried fat source for nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil, or fish.
Read the Label: Check the saturated and trans fat on three foods you regularly eat.
Add Omega-3s: Include a food rich in omega-3 fatty acids this week, such as salmon, sardines, chia seeds, flaxseed, or walnuts.
