Summertime Essentials: Hydration
We need water... and we need it now!
Leaders, it's officially the hottest quarter of the year, making it the perfect time to talk about the body's most essential nutrient:
water.
Did you know that roughly 50–60% of your body is made up of water?
Every cell, muscle, organ, and tissue depends on it to function well.
A good starting point is to drink about half your body weight (lbs.) in ounces each day, increasing that amount if you're working in the heat or exercising.
Yet many Americans fall well short.
When you're tired, unfocused, or simply feeling "off," ask yourself one question before anything else:
"Am I hydrated?"
Water is essential for transporting nutrients, regulating body temperature, removing waste, and keeping your body operating efficiently.
Maybe you don't like the taste of water, don't have easy access at work, or simply forget to drink it.
I've heard them all.
But healthy leaders don't let excuses dictate their health-they build habits that support it.
Start with water this week, and your body will thank you.
CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK:
Track Your Intake
Create a hydration checklist or use a water-tracking app with reminders. Aim for half your body weight (lbs.) in ounces each day.
Carry 1 Special Water Bottle
Use the same bottle throughout the day to easily track your intake. A bottle with ounce markings makes it simple to see your progress.
Make It Enjoyable!
If plain water is a struggle, infuse it with fresh fruit or add a sugar-free electrolyte mix
